The hunger strikers are not jesting, it is the Government that plays with
their lives.
The Government must stop playing with the lives of those in their 27th day
of hunger strike who are putting their lives in danger in order to have a
life with dignity,” Alexis Tsipras stated. Greek society, Theodore and
Alexis Tsipras Dritsas underlined, concurs when immigrants pick olives, work
and contribute thus, but it refuses to see them as workers with the right to
life and dignity.
Alexis Tsipras and Theodore Dritsas, on behalf of the parliamentary group
SYRIZA, today visited the hunger strikers in Hypatia. Expressing solidarity
with the struggle waged by the strikers before an impending death as the
ultimate form of vindicating life, – they called upon the Greek Government
to immediately, within the next hours, summon the hunger strikers to a
meeting and to satisfy their just demands. The Government with simple
actions, without any deviation, within the existing legislative and
institutional framework and in accordance to their regulations, can find a
solution – it is only necessary that they should have the will to do so, the
SYRIZA representatives emphasized.
Wishing courage and strength to the strikers, they stated that they would be
at their side throughout the duration of their struggle.
Tomorrow, local administration will attend the site of hunger strike and
will give a press conference to express their support of the 300 immigrant
workers’ struggle.
