300 migrants are going on hunger strike in Athens and in Thessaloniki on Tuesday 25 January, demanding legalization for themselves and for all migrants men and women who live and work in Greece with no legal residence and no rights.
On Sunday morning, people in solidarity, hundrends of men and women, combatants, amongst them councilmen, union representatives and academics, we all together welcomed 200 of the migrants who came from Chania (Crete) to join with the rest of the hunger strikers and begin this important struggle.
Slogans of solidarity and unity with the migrants and against deportations, racism and exploitation united the combatant migrants with the solidarity movement and made their determination and hope grow until the final victory.
Migrants and solidals arrived at Athens Law School, which will be the center of their struggle, while the rest of the group headed to Thessaloniki.
Both migrants and Greeks will fight together until the complete victory of this struggle. We’ll fight against the policies which try to turn them into the scapegoats of the economic crisis so as to keep on totally devaluate and humiliate the lives of all of us.
On the day when the most massive migrants’ hunger strike is about to begin, we organize a Press Conference. Among the participatns there will be representatives from the hunger strikers, from the solidarity assemblies to the migrants’ hunger strike from Chania and Athens, Law School Students’ Representatives, as well as dozens of members from social and political organizations.
