Press Release – The hunger strike is starting tomorrow!

The mass hunger strike of the 300 migrant workers begins tomorrow. It’s a struggle of our fellow migrants citizens, who outstretch a hand of friendship and solidarity to the greek society. It’s on everyone’s common interest (natives’ and migrants’) to get out of the grey zone. It’s the only way to fight against undeclared employment (“black work”), exclusion and every form of exploitation. Ιt’s time to answer to all these dangerously increasing racist voices.

Nevertheless, just a day before the beginning of the hunger strike, there ‘ve been some “infos” on the mass media and some reportages, attempting to slander the struggle and the hunger strikers themselves. We, the solidarity assembly, as well as the hunger strikers’ assembly, bluntly declare  that the above mentioned reportages, as well as the equivalent political parties and students’ wings statements, not only are false but serve obvious purposes.

We clarify that the place chosen to stay for the hunger strikers, it’s on an under restoration and not in use over the past few months Law School building. It’s isolated from the one in use and by no means hampers the educative procedures. Ιt’s not and will not be subjected to any detriment as we foremost honor the history of the Law School’s building.

As far as it concerns the scaremongering on ” health issues” due to the presence of the migrants, we cannot but simply say that all migrants for the needs of the hunger strike itself, are under medical observation. In any case, these flimsy racist arguments have been already answered by the committee of doctors, who visited the space on behalf and under the authority of the Rectorate Authorities.

The above mentioned is also confirmed by the decision taken by the Board of Students’ Union.
