The Merseyside Social Work Action Network offers full solidarity to the migrant hunger strikers in Greece. As social work professionals, academics, and students we express our anger towards the criminalization of solidarity. We express our anger about the reality that migrant workers face not only in Greece but all over the countries of the European Union. We, also, express our anger about the fatal realities of the European external border, ie, the deaths that are occurring. We stand for a grassroots movement that embraces migration and wants to create a social Europe, a Europe that cares for all people.
In a climate of increased repression and anti-migrant rhetoric, we have to act and take sides with the oppressed, the victims of our society. Now it is them, next it will be us. We express our solidarity with the hunger strikers in Greece, and we demand unconditional legalisation for all migrant people. We clearly state that their struggles are our struggles for social justice.
