Dear Mr. Panagiotis Zografos
It has come to my notice that in Greece about 300 immigrants are on
hunger strike because of their unbearable social situation. The
treatment that immigrants face from the Greek authorities is nothing
short of barbaric. Even the authorities of the EU described the
situation of human rights in Greece as catastrophic. I understand that
in Athens’ parks and squares immigrants are to be found – homeless,
jobless, undocumented and hungry. It is a shame that working people and
immigrants have to pay for an economic crisis they didn’t cause.
I demand the immediate legalisation of the “300” and the fullfilling of
all their demands and equal rights for everybody living in Greece.
Please take note,
Mag. Sonja Grusch
Chairperson of the Socialist Left Party
–Ψήφισμα αλληλεγγύης απο την “Σοσιαλιστική Εναλλακτική” (Sozialistische Alternative /SAV – German section of Committee for a Workers’ International -CWI)
Dear friends and comrades,
through our comrades from Xekinima we have heard about your courageous
struggle for papers and equal rights. We want to express our
wholehearted solidarity and support for your cause. The fate of refugees
has entered the mass media in Germany in the last days with the events
in Lampedusa, already right-wing forces are demanding to even strengthen
the fortress Europe. This is despite the fact that the western
capitalist countries have a great responsibility for the living
onditions in your home countries which forced you to leave your home.
Western capitalism supports repressive regimes and economically exploits
these countries and it’s workers.
This is why we think that the struggle for refugee rights, for papers
for all, against deportations etc. should be combined with the struggle
against the root causes – capitalism.
We stand for the unity of workers and poor everywhere – within countries
and between countries. The Greek workers were victims of a racist
campaign in countries like Germany last year at the height of the
Greek/Euro crisis. This was an attempt by German right-wing politicians
to use Greek workers as scapegoats and divert attention from their own
responsibility for the crisis. The same happens with you in Greece. You
re blamed for social problems which you did not cause. The answer to
this must be unity in struggle of workers, unemployed and poor people
or jobs, decent wages and equal rights for all – irrespective of their
nationality, colour of skin, religion.
we have published an article about your struggle on our website (www.sozialismus.info/?sid=4099 ) and sent out an appeal for support for you. We will continue to make your struggle known in Germany.
Yours in solidarity,
Sascha Stanicic
National spokesperson of Sozialistische Alternative (SAV) – German section of Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI)
