Message of solidarity to hunger strikers in Greece – DIE LINKE – Germany

No person is illegal

On occasion of the day of solidarity with the refugees in Greece being on hunger strike Caren Lay and Werner Dreibus, MPs, National Secretaries of DIE LINKE state:

Also in the light of the fact that the European Court just banned the deportation of refugees to Greece, European and German public must no longer close its eyes to the living conditions of the people, stranded at the borders of the fortress Europe in the allegedly secure Greece. We demand that the Greek authorities abolish the direct danger for life and health of the people on hunger strike and assure them a humane treatment and a speedy processing of their demands according to the rule of the laws – national and international. Furthermore, the treatment of refugees in the European Union has to be changed fundamentally. The Dublin II system must be replaced by a system that sets a humane treatment of refugees in the place of the fortress Europe. No human being leaves his or her country without need and no human being is illegal. This is what European refugee policy has to bear in mind.
